McDonalds Chicken McNuggets contain carcinogens derived from petroleum

You might avoid McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets in both the UK and the US. Because no matter which side of the water you’re on, you might find them kinda gross. But not surprisingly, they’re a lot grosser in the U.S., what with the petroleum-based product they’re made with and the anti-foaming agent that’s in them and also in Silly Putty.

CNN reports on those and other differences between stateside and British McNuggets. The scary-sounding chemicals are in the U.S. version are there because of “local tastes,” CNN says. It’s not that we Americans love our tertiary butylhydroquinone or our dimethylpolysiloxane any more than the Brits do. It’s because we prefer our nuggets coated, then cooked, and the Brits like them just the opposite. That also explains why UK nuggets have less fat and fewer calories.
