Rat Brain on Aspartame

A new study in the journal Redox Biology which evaluated the effects of the chemical sweetner Aspartame on rat brains shows some interesting morphological changes in the brain tissue of rats that were fed doses of aspartame similar to what a human might consume, along with a drug called methotrexate (MTX). MTX sensitizes the rats to the effects of Aspartame to “simulate” the sensitivity of a human brain.

Critics will no doubt wonder about the administration of methotrexate along with the Aspartame and where the Aspartame-only group is,   But at a minimum, one can conclude people taking methotrexate for other conditions should not drink diet soda.
